The Isle of Westland Railway

It's better by train.......

Railcars.

I confess to a liking for railbuses............

Built by Ron Grant and then owned and adapted by Rob Bennet this attained fame as the Benbril Flyer in a film ..................linked to below. It basically  was a fast running and out of control missile on rails but I have added radio control and tamed it. It is now a very useful vehicle carrying out the track test at the start of any running sesion. It travels to other peoples lines and runs on the Kent group Hopfields layout when

A Blackberry Lane brass kit.

The original bogie was very undepowered so the car was upgraded by replacement by an Essel engineering bogie. Radio control and sound unit added have been added. .

A newly arrived Ebay purchase ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,repaint and other work needed before it enters servive.

At one time this vehicle was available as a kit from Brandbright. I bought mine secondhand after production ceased. They were much in demand. I ran it until the motor/gearbox unit wore out and the bus was consigned to the 'repairs needed' box.

Coming across it I realised that I had a suitable gearbox/motor unit I had acquired from a stand at a show on the 'that will come in useful one day' principle and after a few hours work the bus rides the rails again. I had forgotten how noisy it was. The empty body shell acts to magnify the gear sounds and it will certainly be easy to know where it is one the line at all times.
